Downtown Bentonville, The Long Road Home Project

Riders out at the Bentonville Square preparing for our ride to the capitol in April.

What is The Long Road Home Project?

In April 2026, the Long Road Home will ride on horseback from Northwest Arkansas to the State Capitol to carry those stories forward. Handwritten letters from foster youth, foster families, and frontline caseworkers will be delivered to Governor Sarah Huckabee Sanders as a formal record of lived experience.

Our hope is to inspire change. Ignite support. Raise awareness.

“The main reason I support The Long Road Home Project is because it aligns completely with our mission here at Flint Creek Youth Ranch. We are honored to be part of that ride and that ongoing project. I

Have been privileged with having horses my whole life. I have never experienced what it would be like to not have access to the joys that horses can bring. The longer I share these horses with others, the more I become aware and realize that there are so many people who have never had that experience! Especially children! I love people of every age and race but children are closest to my heart.

I have seen lives transformed, attitudes changed, fears overcome, and confidence achieved along with many other amazing benefits This experience brings. I have been told by some. I'm just providing an entertainment no different than any other but I have experienced that riding a horse and spending time with them brings so much more than just entertainment.

I love hearing children laugh as they follow behind on their horse down trails that go just about everywhere. I love to hear the stories that children tell about the experience they're having, the joy they are experiencing and the fears they are leaving behind. I can't tell you how many times I have heard children exclaim "this is the best day of my life!"

Someone recently asked me how come they all say the same thing? And I can testify so many times. It's word for word. "This is the best day of my life!" It's their testimony and you can't argue with that. It thrills my heart like nothing else.

So I must conclude, there's nothing I enjoy in life more than taking children trail riding. I would like to see every child who wants to ride get a chance to do so. To me, It's worth more than all the money in the world.”
